onthepolicy is a legal reference site for Oregon motor vehicle insurance statutes, particularly the UM/UIM, UMPD, and PIP statutes. The site was built by a lawyer for use by lawyers, judges, and other legal professionals. Each statute covered by the site has its own static web page displaying the full text of the current version of the statute, the full text from each historical version of the statute from enactment to now, a side-by-side comparison tool, a printable version, and a brief chronology of the legislative history.

AI did not conduct the research, or make editorial decisions about what to include or how to present it. Every word of statutory text you read on this site was drawn from the official Oregon Revised Statutes and verified against the source material by a human.

The statute text on every page was assembled and verified by a human lawyer. The research underlying the site involved creating a text file for each statute. The lawyer then reviewed the original source for each historical edition of the statute at the ORS Archives and copied each version of the statute into the text file from enactment to the current version. The lawyer then verified the copied text was accurate. The legislative history summaries in part reflect original research by the lawyer. Editorial notes (displayed by mouseover) are exclusively the work of the lawyer.

AI wrote the code. The HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that structure and power this site were built by generative AI, specifically Anthropic’s Claude Cowork. AI created each statute page using the text files assembled and verified by the human lawyer. The lawyer then verified that AI actually used the text from the text file.

Much of the site is a collaboration with AI. The human had an idea, and AI made it happen. We continue to collaborate as we maintain the site, but we always verify any content, whether written by AI or human, is accurate.
